Operation, Cleaning and Maintenance

A solar panel system is very reliable as there are no moving parts to wear out. The panels themselves should be the longest lasting part of the system – most have a 25 year warranty and will probably continue to work indefinitely, but at a reduced performance.

Maintenance of the panels should consist of ensuring they are clean of dirt and debris and have no physical damage.

Regular cleaning helps to keep your system performing at its best. Cleaning should only be done in a safe manner and, depending on the climate, your solar panels may only need occasional attention. We recommend cleaning on a yearly basis, however where there are trees and limited rainfall, this may have to be done more frequently.

Generally, climbing on to roofs to clean panels is a job that should be undertaken by someone with the right equipment and training for working at heights.
